About the owner
Benjamin Filchak's journey as an artist starts at his earliest years: his innate curiosity led him to disassemble toys, construct forts, and delve into the mechanics of bicycles. While he primarily specializes in welding and fabrication, having trained in advanced welding techniques both throughout New England and in Honolulu, Hawaii, he combines his natural ability in many different mediums, including ceramics, jewelry, blacksmithing, welding, printmaking, and more. He has also worked in arts education for many years, and is involved in the iron casting community through attending the NCCCIAP (National Conference of Contemporary Cast Iron Art Practices) and working locally with Mass Arts Iron Corps and The Steel Yard in Providence, RI.
Today, Ben’s work reflects a synthesis of his diverse influences and experiences. A third-generation fisherman, his work is often inspired by conservation, found objects, and natural materials. When not creating art, Ben can be found tending to his backyard pond, cooking over an open fire, or making fishing lures. A born problem solver, he loves to help homeowners, contractors, or companies bring projects to life with a balanced understanding of structure, utility, and form.
